The small town of Indian Bay located on the north side of Bonavista Bay on the "Road to the Shore", boasts one of the best fishing spots for Brook Trout in Eastern Newfoundland i.e. the Indian Bay Watershed.
The Indian Bay area offers quality Brook Trout angling in a clean, unspoiled, wilderness setting. Also, Indian Bay Brook is a licensed salmon river offering good catches of Atlantic Salmon. This combination of trout and salmon angling makes Indian Bay an exciting destination for the experienced or novice angler.
The Indian Bay Watershed covers approximately 700 square kilometers and is comprised of 14 large ponds and a number of other smaller ponds. A network of old woods roads offer automobile access to several ponds, while other ponds are accessible by use of ATV or pickup truck in Summer and snowmobile in Winter.
Historically, the Indian Bay area was known for producing some of the largest Brook Trout in Newfoundland. Local Residents realizing the uniqueness and tourism potential of the region have committed themselves to a challenging and exciting venture in co-operative conservation. Through, the Indian Bay Ecosystem Corporation; a not for profit, volunteer organization, local residents are actively involved in the conservation, protection and sustainable development of the watershed.
Community involvement in the management of this watershed has resulted in the introduction of new fish management strategies and a science program which will monitor the health of fish stocks over time. The overall aim of this approach is to maintain a high quality angling product that will be available to locals and tourists alike.
